When you give your time as a volunteer with St. Croix Hospice, you join a team of individuals dedicated to providing patient-centered care and comfort during advanced-stage illnesses. Hospice volunteers offer companionship, compassionate help and support for patients and their loved ones when they need it most. Volunteers provide an empathic, respectful and caring presence for patients and their loved ones.

St. Croix Hospice offers many unique volunteer opportunities depending on your personal experience and preferences:

  • Administration Provide added support to the hospice staff in all areas of programming except for direct patient care. The volunteer will assist the administrative staff with general office duties associated with special projects, mailings, filing, organizing, phones, and more.
  • Bereavement Support families during the 13-month period following the death of a hospice patient, through mailings, support groups and events. Provide information to bereaved families about upcoming grief support and community resources and makes referrals to the bereavement team.
  • Companion Interact with patients through activities like reading aloud, letter writing or engaging in conversation. They may also sit vigil with patients nearing the end of life as part of our Voyage Vigil Program.
  • Pet therapy Facilitate interaction between patients and trained companion dogs. Handlers must be certified through an approved program.
  • Virtual Provide support to hospice patients and their loved ones virtually via computer and/or phone such as checking on their supply, medication and equipment needs. Virtual Tuck-In Volunteers will help with anticipating patient, family and caregiver needs and filling requests to set them up with what they need for the weekend.

I am more than happy to answer any questions via email, phone or in person. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me. My name is Jacque Koski if you have questions, please feel free to also reach out directly at 920-309-4248 or jkoski@stcroixhospice.com

Description

Originally founded in Minnesota, St. Croix Hospice is named after the St. Croix River. Symbols of change, rivers are restless, sometimes moving swiftly and other times peaceful and nearly still. Like life, rivers are not always easy to navigate, and it’s good to have a guide to help you through the difficult parts. We are here to guide your end-of-life journey with care and compassion.

Our clinical staff are professional, compassionate and award-winning. Our care team includes healthcare experts who believe in the power of hospice care to increase quality of life for all people approaching their final days.
