About Us

Dramatic Results, a nonprofit arts education agency, designs and delivers educational programming using art, design, and culture as entryways into STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Since 1992, we have worked to identify and close the opportunity gap-guided by a belief that access creates opportunity. The agency focuses on historically excluded youth, particularly in Title I elementary and middle schools throughout LA County. Learn more at www.dramaticresults.org.

The Dramatic Results Board of Directors is seeking new general members who will bring new perspective and expertise to our team. As the highest leadership body of the agency, the Board is responsible for a variety of tasks, including mission-based strategic and organizational planning, advising and evaluating the performance of the Executive Director, fundraising and resource development, and ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management.

Qualifications

  • Strong personal integrity, credibility, and commitment to agency mission
  • Excitement for serving students of the global majority and bringing them STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) opportunities
  • Able to devote enough time to consistently meet the responsibilities outlined below
  • Extensive professional experience with significant leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or nonprofit sectors
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Familiar with Zoom, Google Drive, and Microsoft Word: able to conduct Board work digitally as necessary
  • Able to cultivate relationships and build consensus; respect for diverse points of view
  • Prior nonprofit Board experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Open to thinking critically about diversity, equity, access and inclusion (DEAI) and its relevance to delivering culturally relevant programming--we are not expecting all candidates to be experts in DEAI topics, but are looking for someone who is willing to grow their own self-awareness of bias
  • Understand the agency’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
  • Faithfully read and understand agency financial statements (or ask for clarification as necessary)
  • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the agency and engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for Dramatic Results to advance its mission
  • Leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve Dramatic Results’ mission
  • Give a meaningful personal financial donation ("meaningful" is defined here by the Board member’s own circumstances)
  • Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in:
  • General Board meetings (average of 11 meetings annually, currently held virtually over Zoom for 1.5 hours)
  • At least one Board committee (average of 11 meetings annually, virtually or in person according to member needs for 1 hour); current Board committees include Executive, Finance, and Sustainability
  • Special events and Board retreats (as announced)
  • Observe Dramatic Results programs on a quarterly basis, special exceptions to be made for out-of-state members if virtual lessons are unavailable
  • Read and adhere to all agency bylaws, policies, and Board resolutions
  • Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year, if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings
  • Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of Dramatic Results
