Job description As a trusted advisor, this CFO serves on the organization's Executive Committee as a consultant to our leadership on finance-related issues and acts in a leadership capacity to build talent within the organization. WHAT YOU WILL DO: * Responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling organization-wide activities of finance related in nature to both internal and external operations * Sit as President on the Budget & Finance Committee * Develop and host Budget & Finance Committee meetings to discuss matters of budget development, financial management, investments, policy and procedures, and/or short and long term goals for organization's financial growth * Manage and develop department budget to assure operations are realistic in terms of current economic environment and overall organizational objectives; provides advice and input into each staff directors' plan for operating their department in upcoming fiscal year; includes input into recommendations regarding adding or deleting services, volume predictions, process or operational changes and suggestions regarding, technology, software, supply, and staffing levels for department operations * Assist Chief Development Officer in Finance Department grant development * Coordinate with management to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures * Ensure department maintains the right policies and procedures for responsible fiscal management * Oversee implementation of operations plans of Staff Directors providing counsel as needed to accomplish financial goals * Insures that plans and initiatives in areas of responsibility are timely; holds committee members accountable for results * Identifies opportunities for more efficient use of resources and assists/advises leaders in the execution of plans * Establishes plan of operations and provides input during budget preparation; monitors actual performance and adjusts operation to perform within plan * Initiates proposed statements of organizational objectives and policies on timely basis as they relate to budgeting, financial planning, and financial control * Direct the preparation and monitoring of the organization's budget plans and ensures an acceptable annual budget is approved by the Board of Directors * Assures a financial reporting system is in place and effectively provides leadership with statistical and financial information needed to appropriately manage their departments * Advises and assists as needed in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements; reviews, analyzes and interprets financial statements for the organization's administrative and leadership staff, Board of Directors, and the Budget & Finance Committee * Remains informed of new trends in government and third-party regulations affecting the financing and delivery of the organization's services and performs special analysis to determine financial impact and make recommendations to achieve goals * Evaluates the financing/contracting of services from outside financial firms and/or companies, studies alternative methods, negotiates terms, and makes recommendations as appropriate * Directs the recording and controlling of the organization's accounting transactions * Ensure that all accounting systems safeguard the assets of the organization, provide viable management information and are in accordance with the generally accepted accounting and audit principles * Through a subordinate Committee staff, direct all aspects of account functions, including: billing, collection and posting of payments, and collection efforts including accounts receivable adjustments, accounts written off, additions and changes to client charges, inventory stock changes and the like * Provides feedback and communicates with direct reports in a manner that builds positive relationships and creates teamwork, cooperation and engagement WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED: * Management experience in finance and accounting practices to support senior leaders * Bachelor's Degree in accounting; CPA or MBA preferred * Significant knowledge of finance and accounting policies and procedures (e.g., receivables control, payables processing, internal controls, and general accounting) * Interpersonal and verbal communication skills to interact in extremely delicate, sensitive, and/or complex situations with associates, directors and administers, applicants, community members, volunteers, representatives of regulatory agencies and so forth; and make presentations before groups * Excellent written communication skills to compose memos, letters, or reports in a clear concise fashion with appropriate grammar, vocabulary, and word usage * Proven ability to handle confidential information * Ability to properly prioritize work assignments, multitask and work well under pressure with tight deadlines

The United Black Family Scholarship Foundation is a 501c3, nonprofit organization that operates in Oklahoma, California, and New York. Established in 2014, it is a student and volunteer ran organization that was founded by incarcerated activist and author Ivan Kilgore. Our Vision: We believe everyone has a right to education that empowers them with solutions to social and economic problems caused by poverty and racism.
