Position Title: Voter Engagement Volunteer
Organization: Reach for Resources, Inc.
Location: Various locations across the community, including adaptive recreation programs and a community picnic event.
Timeframe: September1st - November 15th, 2024 Position Overview: The Voter Engagement Volunteer will play a vital role in educating and empowering individuals with disabilities to participate in the upcoming elections. Volunteers will also assist with on-site voter registration at various Reach adaptive recreation programs and a community picnic. The role involves directly engaging with participants, helping them understand their voting rights, and encouraging active participation in both local and federal elections. Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage with Participants: Talk to individuals with disabilities about the importance of voting, explain key election issues, and answer questions about the voting process.
  • Assist with Voter Registration: Help participants register to vote during adaptive recreation programs and at the community picnic using provided iPads and accessible materials.
  • Distribute Information: Hand out flyers with simplified, easy-to-understand election information, including infographics and QR codes linked to an educational video created by Reach.
  • Support Events: Assist in the organization and facilitation of voter engagement activities, including the community picnic. This may include setup, cleanup, and interacting with local politicians or representatives.
Qualifications:
  • Passion for civic engagement and advocating for the rights of individuals with disabilities.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and accessibly.
  • Patience, empathy, and an understanding of the unique challenges faced by people with disabilities.
  • Willingness to learn about the voting process, including accessible voting methods and voter registration procedures.
  • Ability to use or learn to use iPads and other technology for voter registration.
Time Commitment: Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 10 hours between September 1st and November 15th, 2024. This may include attending adaptive recreation programs, participating in the community picnic, and helping with voter registration activities. Training:
Volunteers will receive training on the voting process, voter registration, and best practices for communicating with individuals with disabilities. Benefits:
