ORGANIZATION: SCHOOL OF CONSTRUCTIVE ARTS

The School of Constructive Arts is a field school teaching regenerative design, building, and ecology through direct observation, participation, and experimentation. Our approach integrates ancestral knowledge of natural materials and energy with advancing technology and contemporary building techniques to derive sustainable models of living for our time.
We are building our campus in the Big Bend region of West Texas where we are building facilities to support education, research, and experimentation. Beyond this site-specific laboratory for direct study, we are working to bring regenerative design and natural building to individuals and communities beyond our campus. By providing technical expertise, training, building materials, and direct construction assistance we empower our neighbors to build to the highest level of environmental design and construction.
We run a 3 week Student Volunteer Program twice a year at our campus in the Big Bend in far west Texas. Student volunteers get a combination of hands-on experience and formal instruction in the many aspects of regenerative design and building while living on our campus in beautiful Big Bend. The education, meals, and lodging are provided free of charge. In turn student volunteers help build facilities for the benefit of the next generation of students. This "teach through building - build through teaching" approach allows us to make high-level, experience-based education available at no cost to more students every year.Student Volunteers are the heart of SCA’s self-sustaining, free-education model and essential to realizing our mission.
We are looking for someone to join our Student Volunteer program as a dedicated photographer and media professional. Ideally this person will live on-site with us for the duration of the 3 week program, and attend classroom and building sessions each day. Active days are 5 days out of each week with weekend days off falling on Thursday/Friday. The ideal candidate would be comfortable living communally in rustic accomodations, although they could bring their own camper or camping setup if desired, in potentially harsh desert conditions which can vary by 30 degrees every day.
Our main objective is to document our program in professional quality photos and videos that we can then use to promote our programs and apply for grants. We will set up a contract of work with the selected candidate to work out licensing of media.
Our Fall 2024 Student Volunteer program will run from October 31st-November 19th.
This is a unique opportunity to live in a very special part of the country, meet interesting people, and learn about regenerative design and natural building. Join us today!
