Position Overview:
We are seeking passionate and dedicated volunteers to join our team as Youth Workers/Mentors for our K-8, 9th-12th grade, and young adult programs (ages 19-21). Our organization has successfully operated year-round youth programs since 2013, providing a safe space for youth ages 5-18 to learn, grow, and discover themselves. We are now expanding our reach to include young adults aged 19-21, continuing our mission to combat drug usage, violence (both gang-related and gun-related), and teen pregnancy by providing nurturing environments where youth and young adults can build a better future for themselves.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- K-8 Grade Youth Worker/Mentor:
- Engage with children through activities that emphasize creativity, academic performance, and social-emotional learning (SEL).
- Support students in developing essential life skills, building self-esteem, and fostering a love for learning.
- Provide positive mentorship to encourage teamwork and individual growth.
- 9th-12th Grade Youth Worker/Mentor:
- Support high school students in their academic journey and career exploration, particularly in STEM fields.
- Guide teens through creative and educational activities that promote self-discovery, leadership, and community building.
- Offer mentorship focused on navigating the challenges of adolescence, including peer pressure, academic stress, and life planning.
- Young Adult (19-21) Mentor:
- Provide mentorship to young adults who may be at high risk due to their environment or circumstances.
- Focus on life skills, career readiness, and post-secondary education or vocational training opportunities.
- Address critical issues such as drug prevention, violence reduction, and the prevention of teen pregnancy by offering support, resources, and a safe space for growth.
Qualifications:
- A passion for working with youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor.
- Experience in education, youth development, social work, or related fields is preferred but not required.
Commitment:
- Flexible volunteer hours with a minimum commitment of [insert specific hours/weeks if applicable].
