POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking an enthusiastic and energetic volunteer to lead our Dance Jams classes for older adults and seniors. The ideal candidate will have a passion for movement and dance, and the ability to create a fun, inclusive, and motivating environment. This role involves leading engaging dance and movement sessions to upbeat music, promoting physical activity and social interaction among our participants.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Class Instruction: Lead weekly Dance Jams classes, guiding participants through a series of dance and movement exercises set to upbeat music.
Engagement: Foster a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, encouraging participants of all fitness levels to join in and enjoy the class.
Adaptation: Modify routines and movements to accommodate various fitness levels and physical abilities, ensuring safety and inclusivity.
Music Selection: Curate and manage a playlist of lively and appropriate music that suits the preferences of the participants and enhances the class experience.
Class Preparation: Arrive early to set up the space, including arranging chairs or equipment as needed, and ensure the area is ready for the session.
Feedback Collection: Gather feedback from participants to continuously improve the class experience and address any concerns or suggestions.
SCHEDULE: Weekly on Tuesdays, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Previous experience in leading dance or fitness classes is preferred but not required. A passion for dance and working with older adults is essential.
Skills: Ability to lead energetic and engaging classes, demonstrate dance movements, participate in class activities, and connect with our community. Ability to engage with and support groups that include individuals with varied skill levels and diverse individual needs
Certification: While not required, certifications in fitness or dance instruction are a plus.

OUR HISTORY: CFPA was founded as Hollywood Senior Center in 1973, a nonprofit committed to creating an uplifting and vibrant environment for adults 55 and older while providing a channel for intergenerational relationships and learning. In July 2021, HSC expanded by absorbing The Giving Tree, another not-for-profit organization, committed to providing residential services to people living in affordable housing, including access to culturally-specific food, throughout Portland; merger of these two organizations form CFPA.
