Are you passionate about the fight against Alzheimer’s? Join The Longest Day volunteer committee and help shape the movement to end this disease.

The Longest Day is inspired by the day with the most light - the summer solstice. Participants outshine the darkness of Alzheimer's and dementia year-round by turning their hobbies into fundraisers. They use their creativity and passion to raise funds and awareness for the care, support, and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.

Committee members are the heart of The Longest Day! Some members focus on growing the event by recruiting teams and building community awareness, while others coach current participants and help plan their fundraisers. There's a role for everyone!

Committee Member Roles:

Community Outreach Team

Community Outreach Team Members will:

  • Help implement ways to build community awareness about The Longest Day and our mission.
  • Recruit businesses from the community and participants from activity groups, clubs, and organizations.
  • Make personal contact with potential and past participants to encourage early registration.
  • Assist in building and refining the chapter new participant acquisition target list.

Length of Involvement: 12 months

Responsibilities:

  • Attend a minimum of 10 committee meetings (virtual option).
  • Help plan the participant kickoff party.
  • Recruit 3-5 new community teams (ex: activity groups, friends and family, organizations and clubs, faith-based groups).
  • Attend 2-3 community networking opportunities (ex: tabling at a 5K to recruit runners).
  • Deliver promotional materials to local businesses and community hubs.
  • Work closely with staff partner to ensure recruitment success.

Participant Engagement Team

The participant engagement team will:

  • Execute the engagement plan to welcome, thank, and touch base with participants.
  • Coach and recognize current participants in The Longest Day to help them reach fundraising benchmarks.
  • Offer assistance to participants who might need help reaching their fundraising or recruitment goals.

Length of Involvement: 12 months

Responsibilities:

  • Attend a minimum of 10 committee meetings (virtual option).
  • Lead efforts to recognize participants when they hit fundraising milestones.
  • Assist with coaching calls to build relationships with participants.
  • Utilize the incentive program and Solstice Champion program to encourage participants to achieve fundraising success.
  • Help plan the celebration party.
  • Attend the participant kickoff party and at least 2 fundraising events.
  • Work closely with the staff partner to ensure participant fundraising success.
