The Volunteer Math Tutor will provide small group tutoring (no more than 5 students) to students in Freedom City’s math program. This role involves helping students build foundational math skills, starting with number recognition and progressing through basic arithmetic and problem-solving techniques. Tutors will use a curriculum that incorporates hands-on activities and games to make learning math both fun and effective.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work with students in small groups to reinforce math concepts, including counting, arithmetic operations, and understanding number relationships.
• Follow the provided math curriculum, utilizing math fact games and the IXL learning plan to address student gaps and enhance their understanding.
• Assess and monitor student progress, providing regular feedback to the Program Coordinator.
• Engage students in interactive math activities, using tools such as playing cards to teach concepts like doubles and multiples.
• Foster a positive attitude toward math, encouraging students to develop confidence in their abilities.
• Communicate regularly with the Program Coordinator to discuss student progress and any challenges.
• Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Qualifications:

• Strong math skills and a passion for teaching, especially in underserved communities.
• Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow a structured curriculum and adapt teaching methods to meet individual student needs.
• Previous experience in tutoring or working with children is a plus, but not required.
• Commitment to Freedom City’s mission and values.
