The Volunteer Reading Tutor will provide small group tutoring (no more than 5 students) to students in Freedom City’s reading program. This role focuses on helping students improve their reading skills, including letter recognition, phonics, word blending, and comprehension. Tutors will follow a structured curriculum designed to build foundational reading skills, with the goal of improving student literacy and fostering a love of reading.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work with students in small groups to reinforce reading concepts such as letter sounds, phonics rules, and sight words.
• Follow the provided reading curriculum, including daily phonics practice and the IXL learning plan.
• Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback to the Program Coordinator.
• Use interactive reading activities and games to engage students and make learning enjoyable.
• Encourage and motivate students, fostering confidence in their reading abilities.
• Communicate regularly with the Program Coordinator to discuss student progress and any challenges.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all students.

Qualifications:

• Passion for literacy and education, especially in underserved communities.
• Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow a structured curriculum and adapt teaching methods to meet individual student needs.
• Previous experience in tutoring or working with children is a plus, but not required.
• Commitment to Freedom City’s mission and values.
