Short Synopsis

Student Summits bring together hundreds of club members to discuss mental health and how to make impactful changes at their schools. Students connect, learn, and brainstorm ways to promote mental health education through activities, workshops, a keynote speaker, and breakout sessions.

BC2M High School Program

Bring Change to Mind (BC2M) is a national non-profit organization with the mission of ending the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness. BC2M launched its high school club initiative in Fall 2015, in an effort to provide an evidence-based resource for teens to utilize in the school environment. In Fall 2024, BC2M will be supporting upwards of 520 high school clubs and 12,000 active club members across 42 states.

Through student-led high school clubs, BC2M provides a platform from which the teen voice, with their opinions and suggestions, can finally be heard. With the support of BC2M’s extensive resources, teen advocates lead educated conversations around mental illness to change their peers’ perceptions early on and to demystify a topic that affects so many young individuals.

BC2M Student Summit Overview

The Annual BC2M Student Summit will be an inspiring event designed to empower students to implement self-care plans, set and articulate healthy boundaries, and navigate their internal dialogues and tough situations. Participants will reflect on challenging experiences, critically analyze past actions, and identify self-care methods to enhance their well-being and relationships. Students will link how self-care, setting boundaries and perspective taking affect our physical brain health. This summit offers a supportive environment for self-exploration and collaborative learning, equipping participants with practical skills for healthier relationships and mental health literacy so they better advocate for themselves and their peers.

Through captivating speakers to breakout sessions to a hands-on Activity Fair full of ideas attendees will bring back to their schools, students will leave the event feeling connected, hopeful, and inspired to continue their work in their respective communities.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

Volunteers will help set a positive tone and create an energetic environment for the event. They are that memorable, smiling face of the event as guests and attendees arrive. The main role of the volunteer will be facilitating a small group of about 10-15 students through a breakout session (training provided).

Some duties may include:

  • Welcoming and greeting attendees;
  • Manning the registration table or activity table;
  • Putting together the name tags and/or swag bags;
  • Answering questions from attendees throughout the event;
  • Managing distractions (doors opening and closing);
  • Supporting the BC2M staff and vendors

Description

Bring Change to Mind is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging dialogue about mental health, and to raising awareness, understanding, and empathy.

Actress & activist Glenn Close co-founded Bring Change to Mind in 2010 after her sister, Jessie Close, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and her nephew, Calen Pick, with schizoaffective disorder.

Every individual who speaks out inspires another. And another. That’s how we’ll end the stigma around mental illness. That’s how we’ll Bring Change to Mind.
