The Crisis Services Ambassador attends community outreach events to represent Crisis Services throughout Erie County. The events can be tabling/informational booths, fundraisers for Crisis Services and more! The Ambassador will be able to speak comfortably about the important work of Crisis Services as well as empathetically listen to community members share their stories of working with Crisis Services. Our Ambassadors may serve as the face of Crisis Services to the community.

We offer an extensive training program for our Ambassadors to be ready to be in the community and represent Crisis Services to the public. This training includes basics of Crisis Services programs, suicide prevention skills, basics of domestic and sexual violence and mental health awareness. This training will prepare you to speak comfortably about these topics to community members at public events. You will also have the opportunity to shadow the Community Education and Outreach Coordinator at an event to help you learn the skills of setting up our materials and engaging with the public.

Description

Suicide Prevention and Crisis Service, Inc. began operation in November of 1968 after two years of strategic planning by the Mental Health Association, the Psychological Association of WNY, the Community Welfare Council, and the Erie County Department of Mental Health. It was developed to have broader purposes and concerns in the area of emergency mental health services than currently available by offering a 24/7 response.

Crisis Services of Erie County is the most comprehensive crisis center in upstate New York. Crisis Services fulfills community needs by providing:

* Crisis Phone Counseling Center

* Emergency Outreach

* Trauma Response

* Rape and Domestic Violence Advocacy

* Crisis Intervention Training

* Police Mental Health Coordination

Crisis Services is certified by the American Association of Suicidology, we are the NYS Department of Health Designated Rape Crisis Center, and the NYS Approved Non-Residential Domestic Violence Service Provider. We are also a United Way Member Agency.

The credit for our success goes to our excellent staff and volunteers who work long and difficult hours to provide these services. This comprehensive care is provided by 70 full and part-time staff with the support of 125 professionally trained volunteers. We are fortunate to have people dedicated to this work and who demonstrate commitment to improving the quality of life in Erie County.
