About the Shatterproof Walk to End Addiction Stigma

The Shatterproof Walk is an opportunity for people to gather without the shame or judgement of addiction stigma. Surrounded by friends, family, and loved ones, our community creates a national support system for those impacted by substance use.

Together, we walk to end addiction stigma and restore hope and healing for those impacted by substance use disorder.

We’ll honor those who we have lost, celebrate those who are living in recovery and bring hope to the millions living with substance use disorder. Together, we can save lives. Together, we are Shatterproof.

Mission Statement

The mission of Shatterproof is to provide trusted guidance through the complexities of a substance use disorder and to remove the systemic, healthcare and social barriers to a strong recovery.

Description

Shatterproof is on a mission to transform addiction treatment so more people recover. We're building a future where people with addiction are treated the same way as people with any other illness - with compassion and treatment, including medical care, that works.

Shatterproof stands together as a community, consisting of families, friends, advocates, ambassadors, supporters, and individuals from every corner of our nation. Our shared vision is that no one should experience the challenges and losses caused by a substance use disorder (SUD), a chronic medical condition, that is preventable and treatable for everyone, regardless of background or identity.

Shatterproof has three pillars: transforming addiction treatment, ending addiction stigma, and educating and empowering communities.

  • Shatterproof guides society, especially families, through the complexities of a SUD.
  • Shatterproof informs the public on prevention, treatment and recovery from addiction.
  • Shatterproof educates the public on addiction stigma reduction to ensure that people who use substances or have a SUD can live healthy and fulfilling lives.

Shatterproof is a national leader in improving the way the healthcare system addresses and treats substance use disorders. The national nonprofit is also changing how society views people with SUDs and is reducing SUD stigma and shame.
