Volunteer Opportunity: Database Administrator (DBA)
Project: Mental Health Journaling App
Location: Remote
Commitment: Part-Time, Flexible Hours, 5-10 hours per week
Duration: 3-6 months
About the Project: We are building a journaling app designed to support mental health by allowing users to reflect on their thoughts and emotions. The app will provide features like anonymous journal entries, categorization by positive and negative keywords, and data-driven insights to help users better understand their mental well-being. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to join our volunteer team and contribute to this meaningful project.
Role Overview: As a DBA volunteer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the database that powers our journaling app. Your expertise will ensure that user data is stored securely, efficiently, and reliably, while also optimizing database performance to handle growing usage as we scale. This role is crucial to creating a safe and responsive experience for our users.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop the database schema to support journal entries, keyword tagging, user data, and analytics.
- Ensure data security and privacy, implementing best practices for encryption, access control, and compliance with data protection regulations.
- Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and capacity planning.
- Set up and manage regular backups, recovery processes, and failover systems to protect against data loss.
- Collaborate with the development team to integrate the database with backend services and support feature development.
- Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues, ensuring minimal downtime and quick resolution.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator, with a strong understanding of database design, management, and optimization.
- Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
- Experience with data security practices, including encryption, access controls, and compliance standards.
- Ability to design scalable database architectures to support high-traffic applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative environment.
- Passion for mental health and well-being is a plus.
What We Offer:
- An opportunity to contribute to a project that aims to make a positive impact on mental health.
- Flexible work hours that accommodate your schedule.
- Collaboration with a passionate team of developers, designers, and mental health advocates.
- Recognition for your contributions to the project and build your portfolio for future employers.
How to Apply: If you’re interested in making a difference and have the skills we need, we’d love to hear from you! Please send your resume and a brief note about why you’re interested in volunteering for this project to MJ@thelovestory.org before August 19th, 2024.
