ABOUT US

Full Circle is a nonprofit in the San Francisco Bay Area that elevates how our community of individuals, nonprofits, and companies contribute to social and environmental justice. With over two decades of building community partnerships to support nonprofits and transform lives, we leverage skilled volunteers and financial resources to accelerate social change toward a more equitable and sustainable Bay Area.

We are currently looking for Board Members with expertise in either Finance or Marketing/PR. Experience can be in for-profit or nonprofit sectors.

Board Members are volunteers who provide leadership, governance, and strategic oversight, ensuring that our organization’s mission is carried out effectively and financial health is maintained. The Full Circle Executive Director leads day-to-day operations while Board members focus on the following, in accordance with Full Circle values:

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Governance
    • Understand and uphold the mission, goals, and policies of the organization.

    • Provide the appropriate level of strategic oversight for all key initiatives of the organization to assure that the mission is being met in the most effective manner possible.

    • Approve annual budgets, audit reports, and material business decisions.

    • Be informed of, and meet all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities.

    • Be informed of, and meet all, legal, ethical and regulatory requirements.

    • Ensure Full Circle’s commitment to a diverse board and staff, reflecting the communities Full Circle serves.

  2. Fiduciary Responsibility
    • Help secure adequate resources for the organization to fulfill its mission.

    • Review and approve financial statements, budgets, and financial policies.

    • Ensure effective management of resources and provide oversight of financial controls.

  3. Advocacy and Fundraising
    • Represent Full Circle to stakeholders; act as one of the organization’s ambassadors.

    • Make Full Circle a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority, commensurate with financial capacity.

    • Help cultivate new donor relationships that lead to support in helping Full Circle reach its fundraising goals.

  4. Oversight and Support
    • Hire, evaluate, and support the Executive Director.

    • Provide guidance and support to key staff and volunteers.

    • Evaluate the organization’s programs and impact.

  5. Committee Service
    • Serve on committees and/or task forces and take on special assignments as needed.

    • Contribute expertise in areas such as finance, governance, marketing, etc.

EXPECTATIONS
  • Commitment to the organization’s mission and programs.

  • Uphold Full Circle’s values, mission and vision, and personal qualities of integrity and credibility.

  • Embody wisdom, humility and good judgment and bring high intellect, wide-ranging curiosity, collegiality to the work of Full Circle.

  • Commitment to equity as a concept and developing a strong understanding of Full Circle’s beneficiaries.

  • Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy or the nonprofit sector.

  • Previous experience serving on a Board of Directors or leading a high-growth organization.

  • Willingness to devote time and effort to attend meetings, participate in committee work, and represent the organization.

  • An energetic, positive, creative and pragmatic team contributor with previous experience growing an organization and a commitment to bold action and high impact required.

  • Experience in nonprofit governance, finance, law, marketing, fundraising, or related fields is desirable.

  • Ability to think strategically, analyze information, and make sound, independent decisions.

Time Commitment

Approximately three hours per month, including board meetings, committee meetings, and preparation time. Full Circle Board members are expected to attend all bi-monthly board meetings in person. They will be scheduled before the start of each calendar year and one of which will be a full day retreat.

Term

Board members typically serve a term of three years, with the possibility of re-election.

Compensation

Service on Full Circle’s Board of Directors is without remuneration except for administrative support, travel and accommodation costs in relation to Board Member duties.

Description

Our community comes together to amplify our impact by leveraging our time, networks, and resources to accelerate social change. Our community catalyzes change through an engaged philanthropy model comprised pro-bono consulting projects with nonprofits, social issue area discussion circles working toward collective action, an annual giving circle with grants to local social justice organizations, educational systems curriculum, and community building.
