Hearts for Homeless is recruiting volunteers to act as Mental & Emotional Support Advocates (MESA).
About Hearts for Homeless:
Hearts for Homeless supports and empowers people experiencing homelessness to achieve stable housing by facilitating their social reintegration and providing them with the resources, knowledge, and mental and emotional support they need to navigate their journey home. Hearts for Homeless is based in the Bay Area, San Francisco.
About MESA:
We believe that homelessness is not just a housing issue, but a social issue that requires a holistic approach. Our client advocacy program is a new model for service provision called Mental and Emotional Support Advocate (MESA). MESAs are volunteer client advocates who work on a one-on-one basis to provide their client with a personalized service while establishing a supportive connection. MESA volunteers work with their matched client for a minimum of 6 months to assist them in navigating the often complex process of accessing services and resources, as well as overcoming barriers on their path to stable housing. Having long-term support (6 months+) allows the client/volunteer team to develop a trusting relationship. Having long-term support will also help fill the gap in services after the client has been housed, and help lower the rates of recidivism.
If you are interested in volunteering with us as a MESA or have any questions, please fill out this form and we will get back to you as soon as possible: Volunteer | Hearts For Homeless (hearts4homeless.org)
