ORGANIZATION: Open Door Learning Center - Northside

Help your neighbors prepare for their GED and reach their educational goals! Volunteer as a Reading classroom assistant with the Open Door Learning Center - Minneapolis one day per week: Mondays or Wednesdays 10am - 1pm.

Join us!

  • No experience or diploma needed - we’ll provide all necessary training.

  • Strong reading, writing and oral English skills required.

  • Must be 18 years old to volunteer.

  • We strongly encourage volunteers who are people of color, indigenous, immigrants and refugees, LGBTQIA2S+ and people with disabilities.

  • Within 3 months of placement, volunteers must complete a 4-hour LitMN-sponsored, and State of MN compliant Foundations Training to be fully prepared to assist.

Volunteer Description:

Volunteers help learners develop skills and confidence in reading and writing. You'll gain teaching experience while making a difference in the life of an adult learner. Class assistants are partnered with a teacher who follows a curriculum and leads the class. Volunteers may work 1:1 or in small groups with learners.
