THE CARROTS ARE HERE, THE CARROTS ARE HERE! And we need to get them out of the fields!
Every Thursday until October 24, 2024 we need help 10am-noon, digging carrots or sorting and bunching vegetables. This is because our summer farm staff is now gone for the season but on a New England farm the months of Sept and Oct are very busy with many kinds of vegetables ready to harvest.
Dress to get dirty, because you surely will! Carrots grow under the ground and you will be helping the farm staff dig and pull up with your hands these wonderful vegetables. No experience needed, just the ability to bend and pull carrots, put them in bins.
Feel free to bring your own gloves if you prefer, we will have some on site if you want them, also. Wear closed-toe shoes, remember sun protection, bring hydration - we have water for your refillable water bottle.
Our vegetables go to a variety of programs including our low-income weekly market, our Veggie Rx Produce Prescription, local food pantries, and our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Farm Share program.
Thank you!

About Waltham Fields Community Farm
Location:

Mission Statement
The mission of Community Farms Outreach, d/b/a Waltham Fields Community Farm, is to promote local agriculture and food access through our farming operation and educational programs, and to help people connect with their food supply in healthful and meaningful ways. We use practices that are socially, ecologically, and economically sustainable, and encourage healthy relationships between people, their food supply, and the land from which it grows.
Description
We grow a variety of organic vegetables and manage fifteen acres of leased land with our base in Waltham. Our tagline is "local food for everyone" and we have a variety of food access projects: donating over 15 tons/year of fresh organic vegetables to local nutrition and emergency food organizations, collaborating with social service organizations for own low-income Outreach Market, and working with a local health care center to offer "produce prescriptions" are some examples. We also offer farm-to-table and environmental education programs for children from toddler through teen; service learning/volunteer experiences, and farmer mentoring. We operate a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm-share program and are a resource for other organizations seeking assistance in starting a community farm. We participate in many public forums and host community events, such as Waltham Farm Day - our free on-farm festival held each fall.
