Mission Statement
To retain the historic integrity of Pioneers Rest Cemetery by managing and maintaining attractive and serene grounds out of respect for those interred within and for the benefit of descendants and the community.
Description
Pioneers Rest Cemetery was established in 1850 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as Fort Worth's first and oldest public cemetery. Many early settlers and veterans of every American war from the War of 1812 to World War II are buried in Pioneers Rest. An annual fundraiser called Fall Fest, which is free to the public, will be held again in 2024 with reenactments, vendors, silent auction, antique cars, and children's activities. In 2023, QR code signs were placed on 20 gravesites, so that individuals could use their phones to learn more about each person. With grants from several organizations, the main entrance and Sexton's Cottage will be renovated in 2024.
