Mission Statement
Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge strives to protect the New Jersey's unique ecology through wildlife rehabilitation, environmental education and habitat preservation.
Description
Founded in 1957 the Refuge is situated on 174 acres of uplands and wetlands within the Pinelands of Medford, New Jersey, offering three miles of walking trails, an nature center, an outdoor wildlife housing area, educational programs for all ages and a wildlife rehabilitation hospital.
Nearly 25,000 children participate in the Refuge's education programs each year, including on- and off-site school programs, weekend family workshops, field trips and scout programs. As the largest multi-species rehabilitation facility in New Jersey, the Refuge admits over 6,000 wild animals each year. Some of the animals whose injuries prevent release remain in the wildlife housing area or join the Refuge on Wheels team as education ambassadors.
While the Refuge accomplishes mission goals individually on a daily basis, there is always a keen interest in projects that combine the three arms of the Refuge's mission. One of the most rewarding programs takes place each spring, and is sponsored by Holman Automotive; "Through Our Lenses" is a children's photography contest, a memorial to Rebekah Jolley, a young nature photographer who unexpectedly passed away in 2005. Over 650 children, ages 5 through 12, have participated in the program since it began.
There is always something going on here at the Refuge, check out our events page on our website; www.cedarrun.org
