The Stephen T. Pearlman Volunteer Center cultivates relationships and manages the strategies and processes related to building and retaining an exceptional and diverse corps of volunteers that advance the mission of Lighthouse Guild International. Our current corps of volunteers consists of over 500 volunteers who contribute to the success of the organization and enhances our reputation in the community while increasing the capacity of every department with well-trained volunteers who serve and provide a wide range of resources to the organization.

Position: Volunteer Center Program Assistant

Location: 250 West 64th Street, New York, NY 10023

Job Summary: This position is ideal for a candidate with an interest or experience in non-profit management, human resources administration or business management, who also possesses a strong customer service orientation and communications skills; and who is interested in an opportunity with critical responsibilities in a busy department. The candidate will help implement and administer the volunteer recruitment activities for Lighthouse Guild including the essentials of recruiting, screening, placing, orienting, training and cultivating volunteers for an organization.

Principle duties and responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Volunteer Administrator:
1. Create recruiting documents for various opportunities for programs and departments.
2. Conduct research and outreach efforts to get volunteers.
3. Screen and interview potential volunteer candidates.
4. Identify and place interns/volunteers in requested positions.
5. Staff volunteer events.
6. Manage all stages of the volunteer recruitment process including but not limited to initial contact, follow up emails/phone calls; managing document intake and contact with department representatives and other LGI staff, support volunteer corps orientation, etc.
7. Support the administrative needs of the department and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
2. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear diction is required.
3. The ability to take and follow instruction, take initiative, and apply critical thinking skills is required.
4. Prior experience where customer service skills have been used is preferred.
5. Interest in business/public administration, marketing and taking on responsibilities that are important to the operation of the Volunteer Center is necessary.
6. Experience managing a project independently to completion is required.
7. The ability to exhibit excellence in the execution of your responsibilities is required.
