Recruiting Organization: Child Life Disaster Relief
CLDR Board Members support the work of CLDR and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. Specific Board Member responsibilities include:
- Providing leadership, governance and oversight
- Serving as a trusted advisor to the ED as he/she develops and implements the strategic plan
- Reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
- Approving CLDR’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
- Partnering with the ED and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out
- Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments
- Representing CLDR to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
Time Commitment
CLDR Board Members commit to an average of 5-8 hours a month, including a bi-monthly two-hour board meeting, relevant committee meetings, plus additional tasks as determined.
Fundraising
CLDR Board Members will consider CLDR a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts to reflect that priority. So that CLDR can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, CLDR expects all Board Members to make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their financial capacity.
Board terms/participation
CLDR Board of Directors each serve a 3 year board turn. At the end of their board term, board members have the option to request board approval for a second term.
Qualifications
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about CLDR’s mission. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature in business, finance, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector. His/her accomplishments will allow him/her to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members.
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
- Professional experience with significant leadership accomplishments in business, finance, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector
- A commitment to and understanding of CLDR’s mission and vision
- Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of CLDR’s stakeholders
- Service on CLDR’s Board of Directors is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs in relation to Board Members’ duties
