Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Do you like to be outside? Do you enjoy helping your community? Are you passionate about public lands? Do you like free stuff?!

Come celebrate National Public Lands Day with us! We will be cleaning up trash and debris from boat ramps in the Big Thicket: the Village Creek boat ramp on US-96 in Lumberton, the Village Creek boat ramp on TX-327 in Kountze, the Neches River boat ramp on US-96 in Evadale, and the Baby Galvez boat ramp on Village Creek in Silsbee.

Volunteers registering for this event will assist park staff and park partners with cleanup efforts at the US 96 boat ramp on the Neches River in Evadale. The event will begin at 9AM and end at 12PM.

Work will include:

  • Picking up trash and debris in the parking lot and along the waterway
  • Lifting trash bags (less than 50lbs)
  • Using trash grabbers
  • Assisting with other cleanup related tasks

PPE (Personal Proctective Equipment) provided but must be returned before departure:

  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses (optional)
  • High Visibility Vests

NOTE: Volunteers are prohibited from handling sharps according to park policy. (Sharps include: needles, scalpels, broken glass, capillary tubes, dental wire, etc.)

There will be a required safety meeting at each cleanup site before work begins. Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes, and to bring water, bug spray, and sunscreen. Park staff will supply all necessary equipment (gloves, bags, trash grabbers) for the events.

In recognition of their service, all who participate in any of the above events will receive a fee-free coupon which will allow them a "fee-free" day at any participating federal recreation site within the next calendar year.
