The role of the KAC mentor is to promote the education of students in grades 1-6 by
providing homework assistance and practice with reading skills. The mentor will encourage,
inspire, and coach children to improve their overall academic performance. Mentors are
not required to be bilingual, however, there is a need for mentors that speak Spanish, Farsi,
Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Amharic, French and American Sign Language.


Responsibilities of Mentors (Volunteers):
● Assist students with reading comprehension, vocabulary building, writing skills, and
homework assistance in all subjects.
● Provide one-on-one and small group coaching in reading.
● Motivate, inspire and mentor children to achieve academic success.
Qualifications:
● Volunteers must be 15 years of age or older.
● Ability to work as part of a team with other volunteers and library staff.
Schedules and Locations:


KAC operates in the Fall and Spring semester with a break during December and the
summer. The club meets several times a week and volunteers have the option of deciding
