Mission Statement
Save Our Streets-Boston, Inc. (SOS) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose goal is to assist our community in finding and gaining access to a variety of opportunities throughout Boston. Our city is full of many potential doctors, engineers, artists and more but it is missing one key piece, support. We need to motivate each other to make better decisions. In order to do this one must be given better options or opportunities in life. Our mission is to establish a network of organizations and businesses to promote the many activities\programs within our community aimed at improving their lives. There are many possibilities for people who want to be involved in entrepreneurship, media, education, science and technology, the arts and much more. However, the people who need them the most are not aware of these gems. As part of our goal SOS wants to motivate the community to take advantage of all Boston has to offer by exposing them to every opportunity within our city.
Description
When SOS was formed, Fitzgerald worked endlessly to attain their 501(c) 3. Simultaneously, he formed his SOS team and started to plan annual events to help the community. Most plans were focused around the arts or youth of our city. He invited many performers to participate at the events; artists displayed and donated some of their work, and city officials came to speak to the community. This motivated Fitzgerald to continue his efforts and push to expand the non-profit.
Currently SOS faces the same financial dilemmas all non-profits face. Since 2009, Fitzgerald David’s limited resources and donations from the community have funded SOS. When he lost his job, there was an unfortunate decline in the activities of SOS but, as soon as he was back on his feet, he regained the momentum to work hard for his community. Now with a great team behind him, he is determined to continue to push the events and activities they have planned. These events are all geared towards helping our community stay active. We are reaching out by finding their interests and supporting it. Whether it is having shows for artists, competitions for dancers or just connecting someone with the right person to continue working towards their goals. SOS continuously encourages active engagement, and the tangible benefits have thus far been realized for participants. We would like to continue this initiative so that Boston's urban community strategically develops into a thriving and proud community.
