ORGANIZATION: RICHARD & CLARA HARRISON FOUNDATION

According to several studies, the average cost of schools supplies for a a middle school student is $900 per year. Families struggle and sacrifice to make sure all children have the items they need to be successful in the classroom; but despite their best efforts, many fall short each year. School budgets are often unable to cover that shortfall and many teachers and administrators use their own hard earned money to cover that gap for their students. Some published estimates say that teachers spend an average of $800 per year out of pocket to stock their classrooms and provide for students that are unable to afford all the supplies they need. In addition to basic supplies some teachers support students with items for personal care such as toothpaste and deodorant. This year The Richard and Clara Harrison Foundation is working with the Huntsville Community to support the teachers and students of Mance Park Middle School. Our first annual Back to School Bingo is Saturday, August 9th. Attendees can contribute supplies or a monetary donation ($5) to enjoy an afternoon of activities, light bites, and more. Bingo cards are $2 and the grand prize is a $100 gift card. All supplies collected will go to a supply bank for Mance Park Middle School. Monetary donations will support the purchase of additional supplies and the Harrison Foundation's 2025-2026 scholarship fund. Up to $200 of proceeds collected will go toward the $500 annual scholarship that will be awarded to a Huntsville High School graduating senior in Spring 2026. To make this community event a great experience, we are in search of volunteers to help with the below areas: Venue setup and decorating Bingo Caller Kids Activity Table Donation station manager

Mission Statement

The mission of the Richard & Clara Harrison Foundation is to empower families to thrive.

Description

The Richard & Clara Harrison Foundation connects with existing nonprofit organizations (local and national) to raise awareness of and bring their programs to neighborhoods where they’re most needed. We focus on three areas that impact the outcomes of families - education, financial literacy and health/ nutrition. Families often have limited knowledge of and access to many of the critical resources available to them and we bridge that gap by building awareness via our web and social media presence and in-person local relationships. The Foundation also raises and contributes funds and provides volunteer hours to make these resources more accessible.
