Unity hospice is looking for craft volunteers who are interested in making either lap or twin size blankets for our hospice patients. Hospice patients are on their end of life journey, and often are living in color-less nursing home rooms, or in a hospital bed in a strange room of their home. Adding something beautiful to their lives during this time is an amazing way we can bring beauty and kindness from the community into a hard situation.
Unity has a strong relationship with our veteran's community, and would particularly love blankets or quilts with a veteran's theme - either in patriotic colors & patterns, or with motifs from specific military branches. However, we will love and cherish ANY blankets we receive from volunteers, as all our patients deserve something cozy! At this time we cannot accept tie-together fleece blankets.
Because volunteers will not have contact with any patients, there is very little paperwork involved in becoming a craft volunteer for Unity - we ask volunteers to fill out an application and do a short phone interview before they are officially on the team!
Blanket/quilt donations will need to be dropped off at one of our locations either in Skokie, or the Chinatown, West Lawn or Andersonville neighborhoods in Chicago. Pick-up is possible to arrange for larger donations.
If you have the skills and interest to join our craft team we would LOVE to have you - please sign up today!
