ORGANIZATION: STRUGGLE FOR MIAMIS AFFORDABLE AND SUSTAINABLE HOUSING INCORPORATED

SMASH is looking for volunteers to help keep our house looking shiny and to help run our events! Sign up for one of the daily shifts, and in return, you can use our space to host your own event! Sell your baked goods, jewelry, promote your business or whatever!

What you get:

Training
Leadership Development
4 Hours at Liberty City co-op for your cause/business
$50 Stipend per shift

What we get from you:

2 Hours of your time
Cleaning skills
Organizing skills

IMPORTANT: Prior to starting your shift, you MUST meet with SMASH staff for a 1-hr orientation and training. If you do not do this prior to your scheduled shift, your shift will be canceled.

ALSO IMPORTANT: Shifts can only be completed when there is an active event at the housing co-op. If there is no event, and volunteers have not organized one either, then shifts are canceled for that day, and no payments are made. However, volunteers are free to organize as many events as they want on open days!

Mission Statement

SMASH is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit worker-led cooperative Community Land Trust organization. Our mission is to build community power for housing and climate justice in Miami.

Description

SMASH is a community land trust building power for housing and climate justice in Miami. We use a set of coordinated strategies we call the Power Building Ecosystem. It consists of:

Tenant Organizing
Transforming Opponents into Allies
Housing Tech R&D
Community control of land and housing
Policy Change

SMASH's current campaign is the Miami Housing Justice Agenda, a massive grassroots outreach, organizing and transformation initiative for Miami-Dade county to make housing a human right by the year 2030. We have created permanent infrastructure to conduct and track our long-term power building efforts including two affordable housing cooperatives for our 12 housing justice organizers, and our open source digital organizing platform, House of Justice.
