Commitment: Part-Time Volunteer Position (10-15 hours per week)
Role Overview:
The Jehovah Jireh Community Development Center Inc. (JJ Center Inc.) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to manage our thriving food pantry located in Ward 8 of Washington, DC. This volunteer position is vital to ensuring that our food pantry operates smoothly and effectively, providing essential nutrition to low-income families in this area.
Key Responsibilities:
* Inventory Management: Oversee the receipt, storage, and distribution of food items. Ensure inventory is well-organized and rotated to maintain freshness.
* Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, train, and schedule pantry volunteers. Provide guidance and support to ensure efficient pantry operations.
* Client Assistance: Welcome and assist clients, ensuring they receive food items in a dignified and respectful manner. Address any questions or concerns they may have.
* Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of food donations, distributions, and client interactions. Prepare reports as needed.
* Community Outreach: Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, organizations, and donors to secure food and financial contributions. Promote pantry services within the community.
* Vendor Management: Coordinate with vendors to manage food orders, pickups, and deliveries. Ensure timely and efficient procurement of food supplies.
* Compliance: Ensure the pantry operates in accordance with health and safety regulations. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pantry space.
Qualifications:
* Commitment to JJ Center’s Mission: A strong desire to support the community and alleviate hunger in the DC area.
* Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
* Leadership Skills: Experience in managing or coordinating volunteers is preferred.
* Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and move boxes of food and stand for extended periods.
* Reliability: Dependable and punctual, with a strong sense of responsibility.
