Love Salmon? Spread Mulch! - Join PCD's August 24 Work Party @ South Prairie Creek Preserve!
ORGANIZATION: Pierce Conservation District
Please visit the new page to apply.
Join Pierce Conservation District from 9 AM - 12 PM on Saturday, August 24th, as we continue restoration efforts at South Prairie Creek Preserve! Over the past several years, we have planted thousands of native trees and shrubs that need your help installing mulch rings in preparation for the hot and dry summer months. Mulch rings help plants retain moisture, keep the soil cool, provide organic matter, and suppress competition from other vegetation.
What to Expect:
- Uneven terrain
- A porta potty will be available on site
- Limited parking, so please carpool with people in your party if possible.
- Volunteers will fill 5 gallon buckets with mulch and spread them around plantings.
What to Bring:
- Dress for the weather: please wear long pants and layers.
- Closed-toed, water-resistant shoes (no flats or sandals)
- Favorite pair of work gloves (optional; PCD will have loaner gloves available)
- Full water bottle!

Description
The Pierce Conservation District works with the community to improve water quality, promote sustainable agriculture, create thriving habitat, and build a just and healthy food system for all, through education, community engagement, and financial and technical assistance. Our district’s roots run deep in our community. Created in 1949 as part of a national response to the ecological disaster of the 1930s known as the Dust Bowl, we have worked for over 65-years to help local farmers, cities, and citizens address numerous sustainability challenges. Conserving our natural resources for future generations gets more difficult with each year, making the work of Pierce Conservation District more important than ever.
