Sustainable Contra Costa (SCOCO) invites passionate and dedicated individuals to volunteer to help us further our mission.

We have an immediate volunteer opportunity for an Event Coordinator who has had experience coordinating or leading a special event for more than 25 attendees. Working with staff and other volunteers, you will support the production of our annual Leadership in Sustainability Awards Gala.

The Event Coordinator will work with a committed group of volunteers responsible for planning and executing SCOCO's prestigious Leadership in Sustainability Awards Gala on September 18, 2024 in Pleasant Hill. Primary responsibilities include coordinating site set-up and layout with the venue, rental companies, food & beverage vendors, etc. Also helping to manage planning and day-of volunteers, scheduling volunteer jobs and shifts, coordinating decor, and silent auction set-up. The Event Coordinator will need to be on site from approximately 4 p.m. until 11 p.m. on the day of the event, September 18, 2024.

Events Committee volunteers work remotely on their own computer when not attending planning meetings or providing direct event support. Hours and location are flexible, and volunteers must be comfortable structuring their own time. This work could take approximately 10 hours a week.

SCOCO depends on interns and volunteers to forward our efforts.

Our volunteer positions provide on-the-job experience and substantial professional benefits including:

  • Working with a unique local environmental non-profit organization and with fun, spirited
  • and dedicated team members.
  • Connecting with innovative and pioneering leaders in the expanding field of sustainability
  • Improving event planning, outreach, education and communication skills
  • Valuable job networking
  • Community service credit for school, if desired
  • Letter of recommendation/professional reference, based on performance
