ORGANIZATION: Midtown Family Services

Midtown Family Services has openings for three board members. Individual board members are expected to:

  • know Midtown Family Services' mission, theory of change, policies, programs, and needs as well as understand its collective purpose
  • faithfully read and understand the Midtown Family Services' financial statements and board materials in advance of meetings
  • serve as active advocates and ambassadors for Midtown Family Services
  • fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for Midtown Family Services to advance its mission
  • leverage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to achieve the Midtown Family Services' mission
  • give a meaningful personal financial donation
  • help identify personal connections that can benefit Midtown Family Services' fundraising and reputational standing, and influence public policy
  • prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
  • participate fully in the development of one or more areas of programming or general administrative functioning
  • engage in learning opportunities to better understand the two populations we serve: 1) persons returning to Santa Clara County from incarceration; and 2) individuals/families currently living in zipcodes 95128, 95126, 95008, 95117, and 95129
  • respect the experiences of all who bring their voices and lived experiences into the boardroom and the organization.

Areas of programming we'd like to strengthen over the next two years:

  • legal services
  • financial counseling
  • employment counseling
  • housing search assistance
  • Individual and family counseling

Areas of general administration we'd like to strengthen over the next two years:

  • financial planning and oversight
  • fundraising
  • volunteer recruitment, training, management, and retention
  • utilization of Google for Nonprofits / Google Suite, Salesforce, and integrated telephony; security; general functioning of office computers, printers, and related

Mission Statement

Midtown Family Services' mission is to assist individuals and families who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, become self-sufficient in housing and interdependent domains through timely and evidence-based interventions.

Description

Midtown Family Services provides support for low-income individuals/families living in San Jose and surrounding communities in two program areas: Financial counseling and navigation services for low income, working, members of the community with basic needs; and reentry of individuals back into the community after incarceration in state prison.
