Safe Place headquartered in Washington, DC is looking for a qualified At-Large Board Director of Corporate Regulatory Compliance to join the volunteer senior leadership team. Our ideal candidate is attentive, innovative, and passionate about our mission and vision.

Summary

The three-year term begins on the first of the month following the directors/officers meeting that follows their election and ends at the close of the installation of directors/officers in the year the term ends. The Member At-Large of Corporate Regulatory Compliance may be elected to one additional consecutive term in the same position.

Purpose

The purpose of the Member At-Large of Corporate Regulatory Compliancerole is to advise, investigate, and empower the work of Safe Place by representing the board of directors and taking the lead on all high-level compliance and housing issues that may arrise; while addressing challenges and trends that directly affect the LGBT+ adult disadvantaged housing gap issues that align with the focus areas of the organization.

Responsibilities

* Consistently bring forward thinking ideas and action plans for future goals and programing enhancements related to the overall operations;

* Remain up to date on nonprofit industry changes, trends, laws, regulatory updates and best practices;

* Monitor industry trends, law/regulation changes and best practice;

* Conduct the corporation’s annual compliance risk assessment;

* Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of State Rules & Regulations, Procedures and Best Practices;

* Initiate and direct the conduct of internal investigations in response to reports of possible compliance violations;

* Demonstrate advanced critical thinking, especially during investigations, process reviews and risk mitigation;

* Provide educational material to the board of directors and Executive Director regarding new laws and regulations and issues affecting the specific areas of practice of the corporation;

* Compliance Policy and Process standardization and the preparation and implementation of policies and procedures which meet, state and local laws;

* Advise the board of directors and Executive Director as appropriate corrective action as a result of internal investigation;

* Prepare reports, charts and other documentation as necessary to communicate compliance issues/concerns to appropriate parties;

* Serve as a resource for questions, guidance, and compliance training of new board members;

1. Attend, prepare for, and actively participate in all board meetings.

2. Maintain strict confidentiality of Board’s deliberations.

3. Complete all assigned tasks assigned based on designation.

4. Serve on Safe Place board committees as assigned.

5. Serve as an advocate for Safe Place and event coordination.

6. Respect, uphold, and support collective board decisions both inside and outside of the meeting.

7. Facilitate various teams and task forces as assigned by the President of the board of directors.

Overall board member duties include but are not limited to:

1. Maintaining at least monthly contact with the President of the board to provide resources, support, and guidance;

2. Providing information, feedback, and encouragement to teams to facilitate communication and completion of tasks;

3. Ensuring timely and professional completion of reports and tasks;

4. Assisting Teams to reflect the mission and goals of Safe Place in their work; and

5. Monitoring team work to ensure ethical compliance and adherence to guide rails.

6. Recruit officers and members as needed.

7. Be actively engaged to carry out the impact and mission of Safe Place with the upmost professionalism.

8. Facilitate various special projects as the need arises.

9. Periodic submissions as a representative of Safe Place leadership forpublications as needed.

10. As appropriate, assist in recruitment of future board members and nomination of award winners.

11. Timely communication.

Minimum Requirements

* Minimum Experience - Three (3) to Five (5) years audit, incident investigation, and compliance experience in claims administration;

* Minimum Education - Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, or relevant compliance studies;

* Must be fully proficient with Microsoft Office 365 products including Word, Excel and Power Point;

* Position requires an in-depth knowledge of Fair HousingRegulation across the US;

* The ability to collect, analyze and summarize data from a variety of sources is essential to this position.

* Professional member in good standing

* Demonstrated involvement in local community outreach and/or advocacy, state and/or national levels

* Demonstrated commitment to Safe Place

* Compliance with the Safe Place Code of Ethical Standards

* Involvement in board-related activities for 13.50 hours per month

* Involvement in two multi-day board retreats per year.

* Quarterly fiduciary pledges of $375.00 to be paid by raising funds or individual contributions.

All board meetings are in-person, and all other tasks are completed remotely within the D.C. metropolitan area.

We serve all LGBT+ employed adults and allies ages 25-49 that fall within the local disadvantaged, low-income median and their current pets. Providing priority services to LGBT+ adults needing to escape domestic violence, facing eviction based on discrimination, and victims seeking refuge from hate crimes in the U.S. and abroad.
