ORGANIZATION: Dogs for Better Lives

Regional Advisory Board - PNW
Dogs for Better Lives' Regional Advisory Board-PNW

Thank you for your interest in Dogs for Better Lives and it's Regional Advisory Board (RAB) - Pacific Northwest opportunity in Washington (Seattle/Puget Sound), Oregon (Portland, Medford), and Idaho (Boise and Metro).

Do you have a love of dogs and want to help make it possible for them to train, find purpose, and be placed as Service Dogs with people with disabilities? This is all made possible at no cost to the client, thanks in large part to the contributions volunteers make, such as with RAB. We’d love for you to join Dogs for Better Lives' Regional Advisory Board - PNW!

Dogs for Better Lives (DBL) currently has Regional Advisory Boards (RAB) in California, Pacific Northwest (OR, WA), Northeast (MA, ME, CT, PA, NH, RI), and now working to launch a RAB in the South (TX) and Southeast (GA, FL, SC, NC, TN) regions.

In the Pacific Northwest region, the RAB is primarily focused on raising general awareness and supporting and promoting DBL's Puppy Raiser Program. DBL has an ongoing need for volunteers to raise puppies in-training for their first 12-14 months, prior to going back to West Coast Campus (Central Point, OR) for 4-6 months of professional training, prior to placement with a fully vetted client.

RAB’s are comprised of like-minded individuals that have a passion for dogs and giving back to people with disabilities in their communities. Members are responsible for marketing the mission of DBL, participating in outreach events, as well as planning and fundraising through a variety of initiatives.

One of those initiatives annually is National Service Dog Month in September where RABs plan events in their local communities where DBL has a presence, including Barks & Brews, artwalks, and winery events.

How it works:

  1. Members commit to be a volunteer RAB member for a minimum of 12 months (1 year)
  2. Meet monthly, via Google Chat, with other RAB members to plan events, share ideas, and work together to further DBL’s mission in your community
  3. Quarterly, all RAB’s across the country meet together on Microsoft Teams along with DBL leadership and Board member mentors to have strategic discussions about upcoming events, continuing education opportunities, and more.
  4. Commit to fundraising and spreading the word about DBL with your network of friends, family and colleagues.

What you get in return:

  • Be a part of something larger than yourself! You’ll have a DIRECT impact on DBL’s ability to provide our services to your community.
  • Networking opportunities with like-minded individuals, DBL staff and board members.
  • Acknowledgement on DBL’s social media channels
  • Plan and attend FUN events, and get to spend time with future Service Dogs and DBL volunteers at events

Mission Statement

Dogs for Better Lives' mission is to professionally train dogs to help people and enhance lives while maintaining a lifelong commitment to all dogs we rescue or breed and the people we serve.

Dogs for Better Lives professionally trains dogs to become Hearing Assistance Dogs, Facility Dogs, and Autism Assistance Dogs. We do this at a minimal cost of an application fee to the client.
