Our Home Delivery Program delivers food to over 400 families every week that are facing barriers to accessing their local food pantry. These barriers often include childcare, transportation, disability, or illness. Help us get food to our neighbors in need who may not otherwise be able to get nutritious food without the important work of our Volunteer Drivers! Those that have court ordered community service are not eligible for this position.

Duties/Responsibilities: The Home Delivery program relies on Volunteer Drivers to deliver boxes full of fresh, nutritious food from EFN's Distribution Center in Lakewood to homes all over Pierce County. This program provides an exciting opportunity to safely serve our Pierce County neighbors and make a direct impact on so many families' lives, so please consider whether this might be a good fit for you. We are currently seeking volunteers ready to serve as 'on call' drivers and reoccuring scheduled driving on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Location: Pick up food from EFN’s Distribution Center, 3318 92nd Street South, Lakewood 98499, and deliver throughout Pierce County on Tuesdays or Fridays.

Work Environment: You will be driving your personal vehicle to make deliveries to individuals and families all over Pierce County.

Skills/Qualifications (+ accessibility):

  • Must be over 18
  • Must have access to a vehicle
  • Drivers licence
  • Car insurance
  • Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds repeatedly
  • Access to GPS
  • Available to be "on call" or regularly scheduled to volunteer
  • Complete EFN Volunteer Application & WSP background check

We are committed to accommodating people of all abilities, so if you have concerns about certain types of deliveries (ex: apartments, stairs), please reach out and we will try and work with you!

Supervision/Support: We will guide you through the process and give detailed delivery instructions, and should you have any problems, we will be available by phone to help.

Mission Statement

The mission of Emergency Food Network is "to provide Pierce County with a consistent, diverse and nutritious food supply so that no person goes hungry."

Description

"Currently, 1 in 10 people in Pierce County face food insecurity, and this need is continuing to rise. Through our 75+ Partner Programs (food pantries, meal sites, and shelters) all over Pierce County, EFN distributed over 14 million pounds of food in 2023 to our neighbors in need, including fresh produce grown at EFN’s Mother Earth Farm. This work was made possible by our 2,000+ volunteers, who worked over 12,000 hours in 2023. Volunteer work is vital in helping EFN pursue our mission of ensuring no person goes hungry. Volunteer opportunities include the Repack Project, Home Delivery, EFN’s Mother Earth Farm, and special events throughout the year. We hope you will join us!"
