DCRC is seeking compassionate and empowering volunteers to join our team providing services to victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Human Trafficking who call our crisis line. As a volunteer Crisis Line Advocate, you will play a pivotal role in assessing needs, offering essential information, formulating safety plans and making referrals to clients and their families. Your support through compassionate listening and identifying and addressing client needs will make a daily impact on survivors of abuse and assault.

You will receive over 20 hours of training and role playing of crisis calls prior to answering a phone. No volunteer is put to work until they are confident and comfortable.

The Durham Crisis Response Center works with the community to end domestic, sexual and family violence and human trafficking through advocacy, education, support, and prevention.

Description

Durham Crisis Response Center (DCRC) is the largest provider of comprehensive shelter and support services to survivors of domestic, sexual, and family violence, and human trafficking and their families, in the Durham area. DCRC services include a 24-hour confidential crisis line, hospital and court accompaniment, support groups, short-term individual counseling, and referrals for job training, housing, childcare and other community services. All direct services are offered to the community free of charge. We also offer educational workshops and professional training for service providers, churches, schools, police, hospitals, civic groups and other community members.

  • Due to the length of training required, we prefer a volunteer commits to at least 6 months or a year.
