Do you have a passion for playing and teaching the guitar? Volunteer instructor needed at Braille Institute.
Why: Through educational training, programs, and services, Braille Institute helps tens of thousands of people each year regain and maintain their independence. Braille's educational, social, and recreational programs are provided in an environment of hope and encouragement, seeking to reinforce the confidence, self-esteem, and dignity of those who are visually impaired and enabling them to live, attend school, and work as they choose.
Who: Braille Institute is committed to eliminating blindness and severe sight loss as barriers to a fulfilling life.
What to Expect:
Conduct group guitar class with students who are visually impaired
Guide students through lessons
Teach range of playing techniques
Deliver engaging and informative classes
What's Required:
College degree in music or ability to play instrument at the professional level
Ability to teach guitar to a group of beginner students once a week on an ongoing basis
Ideal candidate will be energetic, excited about teaching guitar, and have a passion for sharing with others
Interest in working with/learning about the vision loss community
Comfortable working with students of different ages
Strong soft skills including friendly communication
Create a safe and supportive learning environment for students
Excellent attendance and ability to be on time
Available at least one day (M-Th), 10am to 12pm or 1- 3 pm for onsite class (class takes place once a week)

Description
Volunteers are needed in Braille Library to assist with various clerical duties, e.g., greet guests, contact patrons via telephone, basic check-ins, which may include checking on lapsed or inactive library user accounts for deletion. Volunteers are also needed to check in devices such as Victor Readers and digital players. Investigate use of BARD, e.g., difficulties, successes, need for assistance in how to use software. Depending on experience and comfort level, volunteers are needed to participate in outreach email campaigns, assisting with drafting emails, letters, and marketing teases aimed at various constituents, organizations, and stakeholders. Assist Library Outreach Manager as needed.
Assist students in library, cafeteria, classrooms, and other areas as needed, maintaining a professional and friendly attitude. Volunteers are needed to instruct (voluntary and needs-based) or assist instructors with various non-core courses (e.g. art, music, dance, exercise, etc.) based on experience, skillset, and availability. Volunteers will also assist various departments as needed, which may include housekeeping in the cafeteria or other areas.
