Improve children's literacy skills and confidence by providing them the opportunity to read aloud to the volunteer's own certified therapy dog in a relaxed atmosphere.

Ideally would prefer a person that could volunteer one Saturday per month.

Duties:
Brings dog to library at specified times. Gives children the opportunity to build a rapport with dog. Sits with dog as individual children read aloud from a book to the dog. Listens quietly as children read. Provides encouragement and avoids correcting mistakes. Works to ensure a positive experience for the children that fosters confidence and a positive reading experience. Reports attendance to library staff and keeps library staff informed of any issues. Reports volunteer hours promptly and accurately.

Qualifications:
Owner of a pet therapy dog that interacts well with children. Interest in improving children's literacy skills. Patience, especially with struggling readers.
