About PACIFIC SOUTHWEST RAILWAY MUSEUM

Location:

4695 NEBO DR, LA MESA, CA 91941, US

Mission Statement

The Pacific Southwest Railway Museum Association, Inc. is dedicated to preserving the physical legacy, historical context, cultural landscape and experience of rail transportation. Programs address the historical, educational, social, economic and technical impact of railroading with particular emphasis on railroads of San Diego County and the larger systems it connected to within the Southwestern United States.

Description

On November 15, 1919, John D. Spreckels drove the "Gold Spike" completing the San Diego & Arizona Railway, America's last transcontinental railroad. The Pacific Southwest Railway Museum (PSRM) was founded in 1961 to preserve the history of this "Impossible Railroad". Since 1986, we have strived to pass on the significance of our country's railroad heritage and the role it has played in the advancement of California and our nation through a living history approach, designed to increase public appreciation, education and enjoyment. Today, it is one of the largest operating, living history train museums in California, with exhibits dating back 135 years.

The Pacific Southwest Railway Museum is a 100% volunteer run organization and we're always looking to expand our team! From train operations, to retail sales, to event planning, there is a role for anyone and everyone.
