Are you 55 or older and looking for a meaningful way to give back to the community? University Hospital is seeking dedicated senior volunteers to join our team and make a positive impact on the lives of patients, families, and staff.
Role: Senior Volunteer (55+)
Location: University Hospital, Newark, NJ
Commitment: Flexible hours, with a minimum of 6 hours per week
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with patient transport, visitation, and providing comfort
- Support administrative tasks, including reception, filing, and organizing materials
- Help facilitate special programs and events for patients and families
- Engage in light clerical work to assist hospital departments
- Serve as a friendly face, offering guidance to visitors
Qualifications:
- Age 55 or older
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A desire to help others and make a difference
- Ability to follow hospital policies and procedures
- Willingness to commit to a regular volunteer schedule

Description
Volunteers visit newly admitted in-patients to the hospital and assist in creating a positive patient care enviroment.
Customer Service is our top priority at University Hospital at this time. The Friendly Visitor Program is a program where volunteers are recruited to offer our patients a friendly visit. Assist with any concerns or questions a newly admitted patient might have. Volunteers will confirm with the Nurse Manager on your assigned unit as to which patient(s) can have a visit. You will become familiar with various departments within the hospital, Perform errands for assigned patients within the hospital, direct all complaints to the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse or proper department.
