More than 150,000 adults in Northern Virginia have limited English proficiency. With a large network of volunteers who serve as teachers, class aides, and tutors, the English Empowerment Center (EEC) teaches English to beginning-level learners at 19 different locations in Alexandria, Annandale, Arlington, Falls Church, Herndon, Lorton, Reston, and also online.
We are currently looking for volunteer English language Testers! Testers interact directly with students to help assess their language skills and ensure they're placed in the right classes to succeed. No prior testing or teaching experience is needed-we'll provide all training (including certification).
EEC also seeks volunteers to support Instructors in the classroom, office data entry, special events, outreach, and translation. Prior teaching experience or foreign language proficiency are helpful but not necessary to get involved. Use your skills and knowledge of the English language to make a difference in the lives of immigrants and refugees in our community!
Come to a volunteer orientation to learn how you can help. The next orientation is on Thursday January 16th from 7-8pm over Zoom. For more information or to RSVP for the orientation, click here (https://englishempowermentcenter.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=92907) or email atristan@englishempowermentcenter.org.

Location:
2855 Annandale Road, Falls Church, VA 22042, US
Mission Statement
The mission of the English Empowerment Center is to teach adults the basic skills of reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English so they can access employment and educational opportunities and more fully and equitably participate in the community.
Description
Established in 1962, the English Empowerment Center (formerly Literacy Council of Northern Virginia) has over 60 years of experience in English language instruction. Each year, EEC serves nearly 1,500 learners, many of whom are struggling to get by with minimal English-language skills. Using today’s best practices for adult learning and second language acquisition, we offer skills-based instruction in both in-person and virtual classrooms. EEC's classes are inexpensive and offered at various times, making them accessible to the largest number of adults with the most urgent language needs.
