Who: HandsOn Suburban Chicago (HOSC) needs caring and reliable community members like you to mentor high-need students, getting them on track to graduate!

What: Positive And Worthwhile Support (PAWS) is a volunteer-based afterschool program that provides one-on-one or small group homework assistance to middle school students at MacArthur Middle School. Many students have difficulties with a specific subject, study skills, organization, or self-advocacy. Volunteers are organized and supervised by two school teaching staff, who also tutor alongside volunteers.

Where and When: PAWS takes place at MacArthur Middle School in Prospect Heights, IL on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00pm. The program will run from mid-October to late May.

Why: Middle school is a challenging time for many students, and an adult role model can make a big difference! Students who attend PAWS look forward to getting some assistance on their homework. Mentoring is a fun and rewarding experience. In addition to the satisfaction that comes with positively impacting those in need, volunteering in schools is an ideal way to meet new people, enhance your resume, and learn new skills. Mentoring at PAWS is also a great way for college and graduate students to gain field hours.
