Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Loppet Foundation

Logo 2023

The Loppet Foundation’s mission is connecting people to the outdoors through experiences that grow community. We value anti-racism, collaboration, growth, inclusion, play, stewardship and well-being. The foundation provides quality programming for youth and adults, produces world class adventures and sporting events, and strives to create a welcoming and inclusive community in its operations in Theodore Wirth Park.

Job Summary: The start lead will serve as assistant to the race director and help set up the start area, manage start waves, and answer general questions. Time commitment is approximately 6-8 hours per day of an event.

Start Area Volunteer is responsible for the following:

  • Set up start line and chute with snow fence, bag drop, flutter flags, tents, tables, assist with PA system set up and other miscellaneous operations.

  • Ensure participants are in the correct waves based on their bibs and ready to go for the start of the race.

  • Be a source of information for the inevitable questions that participants will have about the race. Or direct to the appropriate staff for answers.

  • Managing, directing, and communicating with Start Area volunteers to ensure smooth event operations.

We recognize the need for a diverse workforce and understand that traditionally underrepresented communities must be centered in the work we do. As a Foundation, we are committed to building a blended team that reflects the community we serve. Hence, we strongly encourage BIPOC, Indigenous and Queer-identified individuals to apply.

Mission Statement

Connecting people to the outdoors through experiences that grow community.

Description

The Foundation runs year-round events to encourage outdoor activities in Minneapolis, works with the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board and other community partners to provide infrastructure like trails, bridges, snowmaking and shelter, and works directly with our community, providing equipment like skis and mountain bikes, coaching, mentoring, and camps.

Our values are:

Anti-Racism: Addressing and dismantling historical and systemic inequities in outdoor spaces, and evolving into an anti-racist organization.

Collaboration: Recognizing that we are one piece of a broader community working together to create change. Building strong partnerships is vital to sustaining and living out our values.

Growth: Challenging ourselves to grow, by creating an environment for improvement, performance and achievement.

Inclusion: Committing to offering spaces, programming, and events that are inviting and accessible to all individuals seeking community in the outdoors.

Play: Finding ways to add adventure, discovery and joy into all seasons.

Stewardship: Providing mindful and responsible management of resources - including people, the land, and financial assets entrusted to our care.

Well-Being: Knowing that a connection to the outdoors is crucial to mental, physical and social health.
