iSTEMkids (formerly iSTEM Academy) is a small 501(c)3 non-profit that offers STEM based afterschool and summer camp programs to kids. Our values and class rules are Be Kind, Be Curious, and Be Focused. Within our STEM curriculum, we include micro-lessons on more socially responsible topics, such as ethics in STEM, reparational history, and the importance of inclusion.

As a Professional iSTEM Kid, you will primarily work remotely, but you need to live in the area and ideally have an understanding of local kid culture and local organizations that are of interest to kids.

As an iSTEM Professional Kid, you will evaluate iSTEM's ability to inspire confidence and competency in STEM. You will keep us informed of kid culture, trends, and interests to help us stay relevant with our curriculum and student engagement. You will maintain and promote our iSTEM Spotify playlist. You will partner with co-workers to plan kid-friendly outreach events. You may be involved in social media strategies and or production. You should be a child, teen, or young adult with a proclivity to trend-setting or at least be quick on the uptake. You will keep records of your efforts and of any strategic planning relevant to your volunteering relationship with iSTEM.

If interested in this opportunity, prepare to discuss how your skillset is suited for iSTEM, and what you require to be most fulfilled with your volunteer opportunity with us. If you have any other relevant skills that you would like to offer which could be of value, please also be ready to discuss those as well.

Thank you from all of us at iSTEM

About ISTEM KIDS

Mission Statement

iSTEM’s mission is to facilitate access to STEM education and increase digital and science literacy in young learners

Description

Since iSTEM held its first course, we've experienced a heartwarming and unexpectedly high demand for our services. We thank the local community, including Camas School District, and our students' parents for the incredible support.

In May of 2018, iSTEM offered its first class, "Custom 3D printed Fidget Spinners" to the Camas School District. Initially working with just 8 borrowed laptops, iSTEM quickly expanded to two school districts, 6 schools, and nearly 80 students. We've provided courses in 3D printing, 3D modeling, robotics, Minecraft modding, and graphic design. With the success and community support of our program, within just one year, we were able to invest in better equipment, additional courses, and an expanded staff.

In 2020, we shut down due to Covid. This was a time of false restarts, pivoting, and ingenuity, but we pulled through and are now emerging as a stronger, more adaptable company.

As we move through 2024, we are expanding into additional educational models and spaces, as we continue working to provide STEM education to all.
