Volunteer as either an Equestrian Leader or Sidewalker on our Adaptive Horseback lessons!

As a leader, your role is to work with the horse, take directions from the instructor and to bring a fun yet calming energy to our lessons.

As a sidewalker, your role is to assist the participant with mounts, dismounts (if needed) and stability while on the horse.

Prior equestrian experience preferred but not required. Must be 14 years or older.

Steps to get started:

  • Sign up as an NAC volunteer via our volunteer portal
  • Attend an Equestrian Onboarding Training
  • Attend either an Equestrian Leader or Sidewalker Training
  • Participate on a shadow shift

Description

The National Ability Center offers a wide variety of year-round activities, which include alpine and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, swimming, cycling, waterskiing, horseback riding, rafting and camping trips, challenge course activities, leadership training and more!

Individuals of all ages and abilities take part in the Ability Center's programs, including those with orthopedic, spinal cord, neuromuscular, visual and hearing impairments, as well as those with cognitive disabilities. Specially designed equipment is available for many of the activities.
