If you have a few hours a month to volunteer to help a caretaker, someone who has a loved one in hospice and they need to get out to run errands for a bit - we would love to train you as a volunteer! Often these people cannnot get out to get their groceries, or hair cut, or pick up prescriptions. They are afriad to leave their loved one alone.

Being a volunteer you can sit in the home with that patient and give the caretaker a break; knowing you will alert the hospice staff if there is a need while they are out of the house.

Most of the time this need is for a few hours. Most of the time you would offer a certain day/time to the caretaker and they will accommodate. Sometimes, they have appointments that cannot be changed and will ask you to come sit at that time.

If you feel you might be able to do this, please join us! Our volunteers do not do patient hygiene, help patients transfer from bed to chair, or feed a patient. They are there as companions and eyes/ears to alert the hospice staff to needs while the caretaker is away. You can watch TV with the patient, play music, read a book etc.
