If you love children, books, and working as a team member, consider becoming an Assistant Library Volunteer. We are a public elementary school in North Philadelphia with an open and running library since 2019. We are looking for people who are willing to work 4-6 hours per week on a Tuesday and/or Wednesdy (between 8:30 & 2:00) during the school year (late September until late April.) William Cramp Elementary School serves approximately 450 Pre-K through 5th grades. Cramp is a community school with a stable staff, a family-like atmosphere, and a focus on literacy. Specific work will be determined by your interests (re-shelving; computer work; reading aloud; helping students find a book to check out, etc.)

Description

Cramp Elementary is a Philadelphia public school in the Fair Hill section of North Philadelphia. In 2019 the Cramp Library was reopened for the first time in many years. The Library is light and busy. Every class at Cramp--from the youngest who come for story time--to the 2nd through 5th graders who come to search for and check out books, it reflects the goal of the school: to educate young children. We are in need of several volunteers who would be willing to help out in the library several hours or days per week. This can include working directly with the children (reading to the youngest; helping 2nd-5th graders find books to check out) to reshelving books, to using the computer system to scan books in and out, etc. We will work with you so you are doing what feels comfortable for you.
