POSITION SUMMARY:
The goal of the Meals on Wheels Program is to deliver nutritious meals to individuals who are unable to prepare their own meals at lunchtime, seven days per week. Drivers are needed to take volunteers to client’s homes to deliver a hot lunch from 11:15am - 1:30pm. Volunteers are welcome to use their own vehicle or to make use of an agency vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Ontario Driver’s license and a safe driving record are required;
- Must be 25+ years of age to drive an agency vehicle;
- Must be listed on own car insurance policy;
- Reliable, punctual and friendly; willing to work as part of a team;
- Physical ability to carry meal delivery bags;
- Willing to use own vehicle an asset (Drivers who use their own vehicles are reimbursed for out of pocket expenses twice yearly.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with assigned team members to deliver hot lunches to homebound seniors.
- Drive to clients' residences according to designated stops on route sheets.
- Assist runner(s) with meal delivery if required.
- At end of route, return to 192 Carlton Street and drop off runners, meal delivery bags and route sheets.
COMMITMENT:
A minimum of one shift per week for a minimum of 3 months.
Available Shifts:
- Mondays: 11:30am - 1:30pm
- Tuesdays: 11:30am - 1:30pm
- Wednesdays: 11:30am - 1:30pm
- Thursdays: 11:30am - 1:30pm
- Saturdays: 11:30am - 1:30pm
- Sundays: 11:30am - 1:30pm
RECRUITMENT PROCESS:
- Complete agency volunteer application form;
- Attend a Meals on Wheels On-Boarding and Training session;
- Receive on-the-job training with experienced Meals on Wheels volunteer(s).
LOCATION:
Office is located at 192 Carlton Street (Carlton & Sherbourne)
Deliveries made throughout Dixon Hall’s catchment area
