As a Fire & Rescue Volunteer for the Hansen Dam Trail Watch (HDTW), you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of park visitors. Your primary duties include proactive patrolling during high-risk days, providing a friendly and reassuring presence, monitoring for signs of distress, and relaying important information to emergency services. Volunteers work in pairs and are trained in first aid and basic fire suppression techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Medical Patrols: Monitor parks and assist visitors, providing first aid and proactive treatment for common issues such as heat stroke and dehydration.
  • Fire Lookout: Identify and prevent fire hazards, reporting any threats to emergency services.
  • Coordination with Authorities: Communicate effectively with law enforcement, fire department and park rangers to ensure a coordinated response to incidents.

Expectations:

Volunteers should be physically fit to navigate trails and respond to emergencies promptly, possess strong interpersonal skills to engage professionally with park visitors, and be reliable, with the ability to be available for duty calls on short notice. Adaptability is essential to handle changing conditions and emergencies efficiently. Additionally, volunteers should expect to commit to this role for at least six months, dedicating 2-3 weekends per month.

Training:

All volunteers undergo a comprehensive training program designed to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge. The training includes modules on basic first aid, CPR, AED usage, and fire suppression techniques.
