About Helping Immigrants Thrive, Inc.
Location:
917 Westchester Ave., Bronx, NY 10459, US
Mission Statement
To enable undocumented immigrants in New York City, beginning with our pilot of 10 families and individuals in the Bronx, achieve financial self-sufficiency, independence, and a brighter future with dignity, enabling them to be contributing members of our community.
Description
Helping Immigrants Thrive, Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit headquartered in the basement of a Bronx bilingual (Spanish) church. Gilberto Cintron, our first project manager, is an MSW and the only fulltime employee. Our board is diverse, including several immigrants, one of whom came undocumented, seeking asylum, and now has a green card, applying for citizenship. Others represent community organizations, such as food banks, low-cost housing, pro bono legal services, etc. On premises we offer a course in English as a Second Language, taught by volunteers, and attended by most of our first clients, who struggled north from Venezuela and Colombia. Several have enrolled in free legal consultations with a partner, others in learning a construction trade with another partner. Our funding has come from major donors to date, but we are starting to file for available grant programs. We. are seeking to add staff, board members and donors so we can serve more of the thousands of immigrants dumpred from buses in our sanctuary city.
